School clothing grants:
Each local council offers a cash payment once a year to help with uniforms. Grant amounts differ slightly across the area. Primary school payments range from about £126 to £145 and secondary payments from around £157 to £185. The exact amount depends on your council. You usually qualify if you receive benefits such as Income Support, income based Job Seeker’s Allowance, income related Employment and Support Allowance or Universal Credit. Contact us and we will help you find the right form.

Free school meals:
All children in primary 1 to 5 can get free school meals automatically. Older children may also qualify if you receive certain benefits or the Scottish Child Payment. Check your council’s website or speak to us and we will explain the rules.

Preloved uniform banks:
Many schools and community groups run pass-it-on schemes where you can swap or collect gently used uniforms. Check with your child’s school, local community centres or shopping centres. Facebook groups can also be useful for finding local uniform banks. Ask us if you need help finding a bank near you.

Other support:
The Best Start Grant School Age Payment provides £294.70 to help with the cost of starting primary school. The Scottish Child Payment gives £26.70 per week for eligible children. If you have a child aged 6 to 15 you can apply online. We can help you check your eligibility.
