Money Advice

There have been a number of changes to benefits in the last few months and we would like to tell you about them and how we can help.

Adult Disability Payment

Adult Disability Payment  has replaced PIP in Scotland.

You can claim this benefit if you are between 16 and State Pension age and have either :

  • a disability or long-term physical or mental health condition
  • a terminal illness

You do not need to have had a diagnosis to apply.

Child Disability Payment

Child Disability Payment provides support for the extra costs that a disabled child might have if they are not already receiving DLA. You can apply for Child Disability Payment for a disabled child under 16.

You can also apply for Child Disability Payment if the disabled child does not have a diagnosis. In such cases, you can tell Social Security Scotland about:

  • how they’re affected
  • any symptoms they may have

There are Important Changes to the Scottish Child Payment

Scottish Child Payment applications are now open to those on certain benefits for children

up to 16 years old (was previously only for children up to 6 years old). This is a weekly payment of £25 per child for those eligible.

We have recently helped a number of families apply for this benefit and it is making a huge difference to their income. A recent tenant who is a single parent with 5 children was awarded £100 per child every four weeks making an additional income of £500 every four weeks. As this tenant only receives benefits this has made a massive difference to this family. This benefit does not affect any other benefits currently being received.

Pension Credits

Pension Credit gives you extra money to help with your living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit is separate from your State Pension.

To see if you qualify please call the Pension Credit claim line Telephone: 0800 99 1234 or give us a call and we can carry out a calculation on your behalf to see if you would qualify.

We are happy to help and advise tenants on any of the above benefits as well as answer queries on cost of living payments etc.
