Project Details
Kingdom converted their vacant office building at Natal Place, Cowdenbeath to provide 2 self contained apartments for Social Rent.
Originally built in 1906, this large two storey sandstone building once served as the Manse for the now demolished West Parish Church. The building was bought by Kingdom in 1989 and was the home to many teams over the years until being vacated in January 2019, when the Development Team relocated to Boston View in Glenrothes.
The conversion allowed for new energy efficient affordable homes in a town centre location as well as giving the property a new lease of life. The project was designed to comply with Building Regulations, Housing for Varying Needs, Secured by Design (bronze) and our own design guide. It provided added value, through redevelopment alongside partial demolition of an existing property which prevented it becoming derelict and sustained its use for the future; it returned the core building to its original residential use and augmented local town centre regeneration objectives.
The completed units contributed to the Rapid Rehousing Plans in Fife and provided much needed housing for homeless families through a project which fits with LHS priorities, while also helping sustain local communities in the area through the provision of affordable housing and providing a housing asset that will be available to meet future housing needs.
