School uniforms cost a lot – we’re here to help

With the new school term approaching, we know many families are worrying about the cost of uniforms, shoes and school bags. Lots of people need a bit of help now and then. You’re not alone, and there is support available. 

Fife 

Provided for those on a low income, the clothing grant is £130 per child for primary school children and £160 per child for secondary pupils. Applications for Fife Council opened on 1 May 2026.  

You don’t need to apply each year if you receive Scottish Child Payment or you’ve applied previously. You should get a letter by the end of July to confirm your ongoing eligibility, but if you don’t receive a letter, then you should reapply.

Clackmannanshire 

If your child attends primary, special or secondary schools, you may qualify for a school clothing grant: 

  • £145 for a primary-aged child 
  • £185 for a secondary-aged child  

School clothing grants will not be paid to children who are not enrolled at school.

Perth & Kinross  

Parents and carers in receipt of a qualifying benefit will receive an annual school clothing grant of £126 per child in primary school and £157.50 per child in secondary school.  

Help with school clothing/footwear is not awarded o nursey pupils and children aged 16 and over who are eligible to apply for an Education Maintenance Allowance won’t be entitled to a clothing grant.

Falkirk 

Payments towards the cost of school clothing and footwear (clothing grants) to the value of £135 per child/per year for primary school children, and £165 per child/per year for secondary school pupils.
