Kingdom Housing Association welcomed four teenagers from Fife for their four-week internships last month.

Working in partnership with Career Ready, the four youngsters from schools within the Fife area spent a full month immersed in the world of work, gaining insight and experience into different business areas.

With interests ranging from finance, governance, joinery, plumbing and customer relations, all four spent time getting to grips with the processes, systems and skill sets needed for each different role.

This is the ninth year that Kingdom has partnered with Career Ready to offer working opportunities. The national initiative matches young people in their final years at school with local businesses, assigning them with a mentor who supports them over 18 months and guides them through their paid four-week internship.

The thinking behind Career Ready is that every young person deserves to have the skills, opportunities and confidence to achieve and enjoy a rewarding future.

Kingdom’s Finance Director, @Lesley Janes, who mentored one of the interns this summer said: “Career Ready is a fantastic way for young people to explore the world of work and decide what interests them the most. They get a real overview of what we do here at Kingdom and get the chance to experience all the business areas.

“It’s always great to see them give their presentations at the end of their time with us where we can sense how much they’ve grown in confidence and direction even in a short space of time.”

Intern Arran Porter added: “I’ve learned so much during my time here at Kingdom. I’ve had the chance to work with the Tenancy Support team, and I’ve shadowed the governance and finance teams. I’m feeling really positive that a career in finance is for me, and I’m grateful for the time I’ve spent here.”

The interns rounded off their time at Kingdom with presentations to their mentors, Kingdom directors and other staff.
