Kingdom Housing Association marked the completion of the final phase of its award winning project in Dunfermline by welcoming a tenant to her new home.
Stephen Cairns, Housing Manager with Kingdom, welcomed the latest family to move into their new home at the development. Donna Herdman and her family had previously lived in a flat in Dunfermline and needed larger housing.
Donna said: “Having lived in a middle flat for the past 5 years, I was delighted to learn that I was being offered a new town house.
“We were overcrowded and now my kids have their own rooms and a nice garden to play in, what a big difference it has made to our quality of life.”
The project at Dunlin Drive consists of 125 new properties and is the largest development completed by Kingdom. It includes a mix of different house types to meet a full range of housing needs and the first phase of 27 new homes formed the Housing Innovation Showcase project, where 10 different Modern Methods of Construction and various renewable technologies were used.
The total cost of the project was £14.6 million and grant assistance of £6.4m was provided from the Scottish Government and Fife Council.
Bill Banks, Chief Executive with Kingdom, said: “This has been a very exciting and interesting project for Kingdom and we have been able to use it to identify various new construction technologies and processes that we will be able to mainstream as part of our future programme.”
Bill added: “Although we have learnt a lot from this project, the main benefit is the contribution a project of this size makes to meeting the growing need for affordable housing in Fife.”
The project has been developed by Kingdom, however Bill Banks added: “The success of the project would not have been possible without the collaborative approach and input from a range of partners, particularly the main contractor Campion Homes, Fife Council, Oliver and Robb and the other project consultants, along with the preferred contractor partners who developed the Innovation Showcase phase.”
