Kingdom Housing association provides accommodation and support to people experiencing homelessness in a hostel setting and provide outreach support to individuals in the community.
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and dedicated support workers to join this service.
As a support worker you will support individuals to deal with the immediate impact of homelessness and thereafter to secure/sustain a tenancy and provide structured and ad hoc support with life skills. You will monitor health and wellbeing and will be responsible for controlling access to the building, dealing with emergencies and carrying out Health and Safety checks and maintaining standards of cleanliness in the hostel.
The successful candidate will have;
- An understanding of the issues faced by homeless people or personal experience of homelessness
- An understanding of the needs of homeless people, especially those with complex needs, such as mental and / or physical ill health, challenging behaviour, substance misuse and criminal activity
- The ability to be flexible, as shift working including weekends and waking nights are required
- Enthusiasm, empathy; a high level of tolerance; sense of humour; and be a team player
- The ability to establish effective working relationships, good interpersonal and listening skills
- I.T skills
Applicants for the Support Worker Posts must have an SVQ2 in Care or a related field in line with the SSSC registration criteria or be willing to work towards this.
All applicants need to be registered as a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme for the purpose of regulated work with protected adults. The cost of membership (whether a new or existing member) is borne by you. If you are not already a member the cost will be £59, for existing members this will be £18.
