This Thursday, 31st March, is being dubbed ” National Meter Reading Day ” and GoCompare Energy is encouraging all bill payers to take a meter reading before the new energy prices come into force on April 1st, which will see some households paying 54% more for their energy bills.
In February this year, Ofgem increased the energy Price Cap by £693. This increase will come into force on 1st April 2022, meaning that many households across the UK will see a 54% jump in the cost of their gas and electricity.
This is a record increase and means a typical bill payer using a direct debit could pay £1,971 for their gas and electricity, while homes on a pre-payment meter will have to fork out an average of £2,017 a year.
To ensure that they are not overcharged on fuel they have already used, customers should submit readings before the 1st April, otherwise they may be billed more than they should.
A guide to reading an energy meter has been created by Citizens Advice and is available by clicking this link.
Kingdom Housing Association has an Energy Advice Service that can provide help and support to look at reducing energy costs. We can also provide crisis support to help those on prepayment or some types of smart meter keep their energy supplies turned on.
We also provide income maximisation advice and support dealing with arrears, including help to access specialist debt support.
