Double first for Kingdom at Abernethy

The first tenants have moved in to Kingdom Housing Association’s first development in Abernethy and were welcomed to their new homes by the association’s chairperson Charles Milne.

The development of 12 new three-bedroomed homes has been built for the association by A&J Stephen, at the Provost Mains site.

The new homes have been developed at a total cost of £1.4 million and funding assistance of £431,000 was provided by the Scottish Government, which will allow Kingdom to let the homes at a mid market rent, to priority applicants.

Mid market rent projects aim to help people on low or modest incomes, who are employed, to access high quality affordable rented accommodation.

Mr. Milne, Kingdom said, “At Kingdom we provide a diverse range of services and affordable housing tenures and we are very proud of the high standards provided at the Abernethy project”.

He added:  “Most people in Scotland are facing financial pressures in the current economic environment and mid market rented homes provides and affordable housing option for people, who have difficulties obtaining social rented housing and would find it hard to buy their own home or rent in the private sector. I hope the tenants enjoy their homes”.

The Manson family are among the first to move into their new homes and Lesley Manson, who previously lived in a Kingdom social rented house,  said, “This project has given us the opportunity to move nearer to my husband’s work and to live in affordable housing in a great location.”

The new three-bedroomed homes are being rented at around £555 per month and have been designed to a very high specification. They meet the Scottish Governments Housing for Varying Needs standards and the National Secured by Design accreditation.

John Stephen, from A and J Stephen Ltd s expressed his support for the Mid Market rent initiative and the opportunity to work with Kingdom Housing to deliver  quality homes on time and within budget.

He said, “The site management team, led by Site Agent Scott McPhee, have worked diligently to ensure these homes are delivered to the same high standards as our other Stephen Home developments.  These energy efficient homes are ready to move into and were delivered to Kingdom complete with floor coverings and blinds.  They are constructed to NHBC standards ensuring that all homes will have the Build Mark warranty which guarantees the home for 10 years.”
