In conjunction with its project partners, Oliver and Robb Architects, Scott Bennett Associates and the Scottish Passive House Centre, Campion Homes Ltd is developing a semi-detached 2 storey house built to Passive House standards.
The team has previous experience in this field having developed the Kingdom House in Pittenweem. This pilot project featured a variety of sustainable features and was the first UK affordable social rented home to achieve Passive House accreditation. The project attained a number of awards including the Scottish National Green Champion winner at 2011 Green Apple awards, was highly commended in the RICS 2011 Scotland Sustainability awards and was short-listed for 2011 Building and Engineering awards.
To achieve Passive House accreditation, both design and construction must achieve the stringent criteria laid down in the standards. These criteria include air tightness, energy efficiency, continuous thermal envelope and low energy consumption.
The remaining semi-detached unit will be constructed to current standards providing a control against which the effectiveness of the enhanced Passive House standards can be measured.
